Cockspur thorn

The cockspur thorn grows in the forests of south east asia, and also in northern australia and east africa. It is a member of the moraceae family and is classified as a type of rose.

It has a great many uses. For example, its fruits and leaves can be eaten raw. Its roots are processed in chinese medicine, while in indonesia the plant’s versatility has long been used for special batik techniques. The flavonoids obtained from its leaves are proven to reduce the activity of sebaceous glands and keep the skin looking silky-mat for hours on end. The active ingredient inhibits the key enzyme, which activates the igf receptor (a hormone) in our skin and disproportionately activates sebum production.
